Chapin football heads into bye week

By Thomas Grant Jr.

The first half of the 2025 football season ended last week for Chapin.

The Eagles played host to last year’s Class 5A Division I runner-up Summerville. They fell 50-14 to the Green Wave led by running back Jayven Williams’ 130 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Quarterback Max Stafford threw two touchdowns, both to All-State wide receiver Jaiden Kelly-Murray.

Chapin’s lone scores came off two touchdown runs by Drew Greer.

When the Eagles (0-5) return to action October 3, it travels to Irmo to open Region 4-5A play against defending Class 5A Division I champion Dutch Fork. The Silver Foxes have won the last 13 meetings against the Eagles and are coming off a 24-20 loss at Oceanside Collegiate.

The loss snapped Dutch Fork’s state-leading 24-game winning streak. It was also the Silver Foxes’ first road loss since October 8, 2023 against White Knoll

Dutch Fork went on to win eight straight games to claim its seventh state title under head coach Tom Knotts.
