The bad weather which has showered Lake Murray the past few days took a brief respite at Chapin High School Tuesday.
This allowed the Chapin girls soccer team to continue its Class 5A Lower State Division I playoff run. It was another shutout performance for the Lady Eagles in a 5-0 third round win over Lucy Beckham at Cecil Woolbright Field.

Freshman Lexie Kilmon scored the first two goals at close range in the first half. Isabella Bruno and Grace Benson added two more goals to make it 4-0 at halftime.
Senior Kat Haigler accounted for the lone goal in the second half with less than 15 minutes left in the game. Prior to the match, her plans to sign with Lander University were announced following the closure of Limestone University.
In the last eight matches, Chapin has outscored their opponents 57-0. Up next Friday at home is the Lower State final matchup with West Florence and one of the Palmetto State’s top scorers in freshman forward Ellison Banner.
Fresh off an 8-0 rout of Socastee last Saturday, the Chapin boys played host Wednesday to Myrtle Beach. The winner faces either Lucy Beckham or St. James Saturday in the Lower State final.
SOFTBALL
The Chapin girls fought to stay alive in the Class 5A Lower State playoffs Tuesday.

A late rally in the Bottom 7th was not enough, however, against visiting North Myrtle Beach. The Lady Eagles fell 6-5 in the District Three elimination game.
The Lady Chiefs jumped out to a 5-0 lead through three innings. Camryn Floyd put Chapin on the board in the Bottom 3rd on an RBI single.
An RBI single by Isabella Bruno in the Top 6th put North Myrtle Beach up 6-1. With runners on first and second to start the bottom half of the inning, McKayla Miller cleared the bases with a double.
With two outs and runners on first and second in the Bottom 7th, Savannah Foxworth had an 11-pitch at-bat with North Myrtle Beach reliever Sierra Bendik. After fouling off six straight pitches and going to a full count, Foxworth lined a double rightfield to score both baserunners.
A groundout by Miller to Bruno at shortstop ended the game and season for the Lady Eagles.
